To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force on 1st April 2018, Halcyon Days has crafted this handsome enamel box featuring a handpainted reproduction of Douglas Granville Chandor's 1946 portrait of Sir Winston Churchill in RAF uniform. Churchill was an Honorary Air Commodore of the RAF and captured the bravery of RAF pilots in his 1940 speech, 'Never in the history of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.'
Handcrafted in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, exquisitely detailed keepsake boxes revive classic English copper enameling, a labor-intensive art that flourished in the 18th century. Cast in copper, each one is handpainted with four layers of enamel and fitted with a gold-plated hinge. Established in 1950 and located in The Royal Exchange of London, Halcyon Days is recognized as a premier destination for luxury gifts.
